Hamburg Ballett announces 2025-2026 season

The new season opens with previous Artistic Director John Neumeier's 2022 work, The Seagull, followed by Surrogate Cities by current Artistic Director Demis Volpi, somehow in a symbolic way.

Inspired by the score by Heiner Goebbels, Volpi created Surrogate Cities for Ballett am Rhein in 2024, when he was Ballet Director & Principal Choreographer for the Düsseldorf company. This season, Volpi will recreate Surrogate Cities for The Hamburg Ballet.

Still, Neumeier is The Hamburg Ballet's DNA. The company will also perform his Lady of the Camellias, The Nutcracker, and Nijinsky, as well as last season's premieres, The Times Are Racing, Slow Burn and Demian.

The Point of No Return mixed bill will feature world premieres by Xie Xin and Marcos Morau, along with Annonciation by Angelin Preljocaj and Aftermath by Volpi.

Another big world premiere is Alexei Ratmansky's Wonderland, a full-length ballet based on Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass". The music and designs are not yet announced. Ratmansky's new season looks manic busy!
