Hamburg Ballett principal Jacopo Bellussi to leave after Romeo

Jacopo Bellussi, Principal of Hamburg Ballett, will leave the company after his performance as Romeo in John Neumeier's Romeo and Juliet on 1st June 2025.


The crisis-hit German company said in its Instagram post, "After more than a decade with the company, he takes the stage today for the last time with the Hamburg Ballet – in one of his signature roles: Romeo in John Neumeier’s "Romeo and Juliet".


Jacopo, from Genoa, Italy, is also Étoile with Le Ballet de l’Opéra national du Capitole. This summer, he will also take on the the artistic director of the Nervi International Ballet Festival, which takes place in his hometown in June and July.

Over past several weeks, Hamburg Ballett has been going through a chaotic period because of numerous allegations and complains about Artistic Director Demis Volpi, who succeeded Neumeier in August last year. More soloist and principal level dancers will leave at the end of current season.
