Akram Khan Company announced on 12th June 2025 that it would cease operations in 2027 as company founder Akram Khan and co-founder Farooq Chaudhry will focus on their respective companies.
Akram Khan Company said on its website;
"Dear Friends and Supporters,
After 25 remarkable years of sharing stories through dance and creating work that has touched hearts and minds worldwide, we, Akram Khan and Farooq Chaudhry, have an important announcement to share. With deep gratitude and reflection, we have made the decision that Thikra: Night of Remembering will be the last touring production, which will finish in 2027."
It also said it would be a moment to move forward and create in new ways rather than a moment of sadness.
On its Instagram post, the company said:
"This final tour follows a shared decision by Akram and our co-founder Farooq Chaudhry to begin new creative journeys through their respective companies Akram Khan Productions and Fengling Productions."

Personal note: The first Akram Khan I watched was the one with Sylvie Guillem in Tokyo. I believe it was Sacred Monsters. I do not remember when. I also went to her retirement show at the London Coliseum. I watched his XENO and a few other works, English National Ballet's Dust, Giselle and Creature. Each creation was unique and powerful. I am rather glad that he and Chaudhry will carry on creating albeit individually.
