Artistic directors updates: Martin Schläpfer, Nicolas Le Riche, Xin Peng Wan to leave, Gonzalo Garcia to join Miami City Ballet

Martin Schläpfer will leave the Vienna State Ballet at the end of the current 2024-2025 season after five years as Ballet Director. He will be replaced by Alessandra Ferri.

Nicolas Le Riche will leave the Royal Swedish Ballet (Kungliga Baletten) in summer 2025 after eight years as Ballet Director. His replacement is Anders Hellström.

Xin Peng Wan will leave the Ballet Director of Theater Dortmund and retire at the conclusion of the International Gala in July 2025. La Bayadere, which ran until 19th June, was his last full-length narrative ballet with the company. He has been in the position for 22 years. Jaš Otrin will become Artistic Director of Ballett Dortmund and NRW Juniorballett.

Miami City Ballet announced on 16th June 2025 the appointment of Gonzalo Garcia as its new Artistic Director, effective 11th August 2025. The former San Francisco Ballet and New York City Ballet principal dancer will replace Lourdes Lopez.
