Ballet greats honoured by French Ministry of Culture

France honoured ballet and dance greats with l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (the Order of Arts and Letters) in January and February 2026.
The order is a prestigious honour bestowed by the French Ministry of Culture to individuals who have made significant contributions to the fields of arts and literature, and it has three ranks, chevalier (knight) officier (officer) and commandeur (commander).
The Vienna State Ballet's Artistic Director and prima ballerina assoluta, was appointed Officier on 19th February, the company announced in the following day.

The acclaimed choreographer and composer was appointed Chevalier, his eponymous
Ted Brandsen, Olga Smirnova, Alexei Ratmansky
Dutch National Ballet's Artistic Director, Principal Dancer and Associate Artist, respectively, were appointed to the rank of Chevalier, the company said on 22nd January.
