Design details of Europe's largest dance centre in Rotterdam revealed

The deign details of Danshuis, which will become Europe's largest dance hub, were revealed on 1st September 2026.
Danshuis is currently in a project development stage to convert a former warehouse on the south bank of The Maas river in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and to open it in 2030. Chinese architect, MAD, bagged the job to design it in 2023. The former warehouse is located next to the recently opened Fenix museum, which was also designed by the architect.
The 9,500 square-metre former warehouse was originally built in 1917, according to the Open Monumentendag website. Danshuis' website says the building is an art deco building, which dates back to 1923.
"Danshuis will be the largest centre for the production and development of dance of all styles under one roof in Europe, open to all ages and levels of experience, and providing the best facilities for the creation of professional and amateur dance programmes," Danshuis' news release said.
Once complete, Danshuis will feature 14 dance studios, an open podium, gym, exhibition space, café and a rooftop function space for large scale public programmes.

The exterior is inspired by a dancer's skirt, according to the Dezeen website.
The current view of the location looks like this. The building with the giant spiral slider in the foreground is the Fenix museum. The white building in the rear will be converted to Danshuis. The two images below are taken by myself.
I requested Danshuis and MAD for press images but did not hear back by the time of the publication of this article.
The old warehouse was originally designed by CN van Goor and it is registered as an industrial heritage. Anyone can visit the building on the weekend of 12th-13th September 2026 for the Open Momunentendag.
