Hamburg Ballett: interim leaders to continue in 2026-2027 season

Lloyd Riggins and Nicolas Hartmann will continue to lead the Hamburg Ballett as joint-interim directors in the upcoming 2026-2027 season, the company said on 19th March 2026.

"At its meeting yesterday, the Supervisory Board of the Hamburg Opera House confirmed the joint interim leadership of Lloyd Riggins as Artistic Director and Nicolas Hartmann as Executive Managing Director for another season," the Hambrug Ballett said in its Instagram post.

Likewise, Gigi Hyatt will continue to lead the Hamburg Ballet School, with Hartmann sharing responsibility with her.

The trio were appointed as joint-leaders in July last year following the departure of the former artistic director Demis Volpi. Volpi succeeded after Founder John Neumeier retired in August 2024.

Separately, the Hamburg State Opera and the Hamburg Ballett will announce the 2026-2027 season programme on 7th April 2026, the Opera House said in a press release on 9th March.

On another separate note, Alexandr Trusch, who the company in July last year announced would retire amid the turbulent moments under Volpi's leadership, has been listed as "Guest Soloist since 2025". Splendid!
