Hamilton musical cancels Kennedy Center run

Mega-hit broadway musical Hamilton has cancelled its shows at The Kennedy Center next year, its producer Jeffery Seller said on 6th March 2025, citing President Donald Trump's overhaul of the center.

The John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., the United States, opened in 1971 as a bipartisan art institution. However, in February this year, the president and the chairman, as well as other board members, were fired and Trump was elected as the new chairman as he wanted "woke" out of the center.

“Given these recent actions, our show simply cannot, in good conscience, participate and be a part of this new culture that is being imposed on the Kennedy Center,” Seller said in a statement posted on his Instagram account and Hamilton's official Instagram account.

"Therefore, we have cancelled the third engagement of Hamilton at the Kennedy Center, originally scheduled for March 3- April 26, 2026."

Seller's caption read, "Kennedy Center? No way."

The Lin-Manuel Miranda's hip-hop infused musical played the Kennedy Center in 2018 during Trump’s first administration and again in 2022 when Joe Biden was president.

The now-cancelled 2026 show was due to be performed in the Kennedy's Center's upcoming celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, according to Reuters.

Hamilton still is still running in New York and London. It also tours nationally and to the United Kingdom and Ireland, and Australia.
