London City Ballet to revive rare Jerome Robbins at Baryshnikov Art Centre

London City Ballet (LCB) announced on 8th July 2025 that Artistic Director Christopher Marney would become Artist in Residence at the Baryshnikov Arts Center, New York, in this coming autumn, and that he would revive a rare Jerome Robbins.

"Under the auspices of Mikhail Baryshnikov’s Curation Series, Marney will continue LCB’s mission of reviving rarely performed ballets, as it resurrects Jerome Robbins’ 1986 work Quiet City," the company announced in a newsletter.

"Working in collaboration with original cast member and former New York City Ballet star Robert LaFosse, the work will be restaged using existing notes and rehearsal footage of Robbins at work in the studio 40 years ago."

The rehearsal will take place in New York and the work will be performed at the Linbury Theatre of The Royal Ballet and Opera, where LCB will be guesting, in London in November.

The cast includes LCB dancers, Alejandro Virelles, Arthur Wille and Joseph Taylor. It will be only the third cast to have performed Quiet City.

Baryshnikov’s comment is ace; “This is an exciting project for all the dancers involved and for Baryshnikov Arts. We are thrilled to host London City Ballet while they revive Quiet City by my dear late friend Jerome Robbins.”

LCB was revived in 2023 after a 30-year hiatus. The company is growing quickly and building its reputation in such a short time.

I have had no knowledge about Quiet City. New York City Ballet has some details about it here.
