Misty Copeland receives Harvard W.E.B. Du Bois Medal

Harvard University's Hutchins Center for African and African American Research awarded seven individuals, including Misty Copeland and Spike Lee, the W.E.B. Du Bois Medal on 4th November 2025 for their contributions to African and African American culture.


The medal is the Boston, MA, -based university's highest honour in the field of African and African American studies.


This year's recipients are: James E. Clyburn (United States Congressman, South Carolina), Misty Copeland, Marielle Franco (posthumous, Brazilian Politician & Human Rights Activist), Brittney Griner (Professional Basketball Player & Activist), George E. Johnson (Businessman & Entrepreneur), Spike Lee (Filmmaker, Writer, Producer & Professor), and Amy Sherald (Artist).
