Northern Ballet said on 16th July 2026 that the Leeds-, the United Kingdom, based company and musicians reached a new agreement.
Northern Ballet said on is website;
"The agreement ensures continued work for freelance musicians as part of Northern Ballet Sinfonia, primarily through live performance but also through recordings which support Northern Ballet to tour on as wider scale as possible.
"Thank you to the Musicians’ Union and player representatives for continuing a dialogue with us which has led to this agreement. Northern Ballet will continue to bring the joy of dance and music to as many people as possible, and it remains our goal to perform with as much live music as possible."
Northern Ballet has been using recorded music for some performances instead of live music by Sinfonia to reduce cost since April 2024. In February 2025, the company moved the orchestra to a freelance model.
