Petition set up to ask San Francisco Ballet to cancel Kennedy Center shows

A petition page has been set up to collect signatures asking San Francisco Ballet to cancel the planned shows at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

The petition was started by a San Francisco resident named Daniel Detorie about a month ago on the Change.org website.

He writes on the page:

"As a devoted San Francisco resident and an ardent supporter of the San Francisco Ballet, it pains me to address something that could tarnish the name and spirit of an institution I hold dear. The decision to host a San Francisco Ballet performance at the Kennedy Center in May 2026, following a significant transformation of the venue due to a takeover influenced by policies reminiscent of the Trump administration, has stirred substantial concern among patrons, artists, and citizens alike."

He also writes, "As of today, February 6, 2026, the San Francisco Ballet Board, which met yesterday to discuss this urgent matter, has not announced the Cancellation of OUR San Francisco Ballet at the now trump center in May."

The petition has collected more than 7,000 signatures. Click here to sign.

The Kennedy Center's website shows San Francisco Ballet is scheduled to perform Mere Mortals at the centre in late May.
