The Royal Ballet gave the first glimpse of The McRae / Vassilev Project in a press release on 21st July 2026.
Principal Dancer Steven McRae and Principal Guest Concert Master Vasko Vassilev will unite and open the company's 2026-2027 season with the programme in the intimate setting of the beautiful Linbury Theatre, The Royal Opera House, in 11th-19th September.
The McRae / Vassilev Project is directed by acclaimed theatre director Natalie Abrahami and it comprises two acts. The Royal Ballet said:
"The first act offers a personal insight into McRae and Vassilev’s individual artistic journeys, as each performer showcases their distinctive virtuosity and flair.
The second act presents the world premiere of a new ballet inspired by the performances and compositions of the legendary violinist Niccolò Paganini, widely regarded as the first and one of the greatest virtuosi of all time. This highly anticipated work is choreographed by Loughlan Prior and features Royal Ballet Principal Sarah Lamb and pianist Pamela Tan-Nicholson."
For those who cannot travel to London, the United Kingdom, The McRae / Vassilev Project will be live streamed on the Royal Ballet and Opera's YouTube channel and will be available to watch on its streaming service.
