San Francisco Ballet announces 2026-2027, Mere Mortals show in May

San Francisco Ballet announced its 2026-2027 season on 15th April 2026. The season features a dynamic range of works of classical neo-classical staples, by 20th and 21st century big names and by "those who continue to define it today" in Artistic Director Tamara Rojo's words.


  • Nutcracker

  • The Sleeping Beauty by Helgi Tomasson after Marius Petipa

  • Titans of Choreography triple bill: Hans van Manen’s Grosse Fuge, Christopher Wheeldon’s Within the Golden Hour, Akram Khan’s Dust

  • Jewels by George Balanchine

  • A Midsummer Night's Dream by George Balanchine

  • Divine Creatures (The Ballet Russes-themed triple bill): a world premiere by Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Faun, Yuri Possokhov’s Violin Concerto

  • Manon by Kenneth MacMillan

  • San Francisco Ballet School performance


Forsythe is missing? No. The 2027 Opening Night Gala on 14th January 2027 will feature a new world premiere by William Forsythe.


San Francisco Ballet will tour to Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts and to the United Kingdom in the Edinburgh International Festival and Sadler's Wells in London with Mere Mortals.

Mere Mortals trailer

In a separate press release on 14th April 2026, San Francisco Ballet detailed the show of Mere Mortals by Aszure Barton at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco from 24th April to 3rd May 2026. There will be no Meet the Artist interviews for this run. The Mere Mortals shows at The Kennedy Center, originally scheduled for late-May, was cancelled in February.
