The Royal Ballet and Opera to cut jobs - report

The Royal Ballet and Opera is cutting 64 jobs, or about 5% of the entire workforce, The Stage reported on 25th June 2026.

The job cuts include nine compulsory redundancies, The Stage said, without specifying the affected positions. The remaining cuts are expected to come from unfilled vacancies, voluntary departures and natural turnover.

The Royal Ballet and Opera, which employs 1,169 staff members, told The Stage that the job cuts came in a financially difficult time for theatres, and that it meant for the company to secure long-term sustainability.

The Royal Ballet and Opera has been in consultation with the entertainment union BECTU over the proposals. That consultation has concluded across all areas except visitor experience, which covers front-of-house and box-office teams, The Stage said.
