The Standard newspaper published an interview with Crystal Pite, arguably the world's most coveted choreographer, on 19th May 2025.
The Canadian told the UK newspaper's journalist David Jay that she did not enjoy creating.
'“I have an imaginary post-it note on my fridge,” Crystal Pite tells me. “It says: Remember, you do not like choreographing. It is supposed to remind me to never say yes to another project.”'
However, she goes on;
“Every time I make something, I think: I can’t do this anymore. It’s too hard. It costs me too much. And then I have these beautiful, transformative, nourishing experiences of working with other artists and connecting with people – and then I feel it’s all worth it, and forget.”
We are definitely happy to hear this.
The interview was published as the Sadler's Wells theatre welcomes Ballet BC's double bill, which features Frontier by Pite and Passing by Johan Inger on 21st May.
Londoners can watch Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) & Complicité perform Figures in Extinction at the Sadler's Wells theatre in November. The first part of the work [1.0] was created in 2022 and [2.0] last year by Pite and Simon McBurney. The third and the last part [3.0] made world premiere in the UK earlier this year.
