Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy, announced its 2025-2026 ballet season on 26th May 2025. It will be the first full season for Artistic Director Frédéric Olivieri, who succeeded Manuel Legris in March. It is, however, the third time for Olivieri to take on the position.
The season opens with Rudolph Nureyev's The Sleeping Beauty in December. Olivieri will continue the Gala Fracci for its fifth edition in January. The Gala is a tradition started by Legris in 2022 to celebrate Carla Fracci, who passed away in the year prior.
Full-length ballets to be featured are Christopher Wheeldon's hugely popular Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Nureyev's Don Quixote and Yvette Chauviré's Giselle.
The triple bill in April 2026 will feature three contemporary pieces, WayneWay McGregor's critically-acclaimed Chroma, Jean-Christophe Maillot's Dov'è la luna and Ohad Naharin's Minus 16. It is the first time for La Scala to perform Naharin's work.
The double bill titled Balanchine Bausch Stravinsky in November 2026 will feature George Balanchine's Apollo and Pina Bausch's The Rite of Spring. The playbill on La Scala's website says Roberto Bolle will be casted for Apollo, but the dates are in September. I am slightly confused.
