The Royal Ballet and Opera announced on 25th November 2025 the commision of the new curtains for the main stage to honor King Charles III of the United Kingdom.
The pair of the new stage curtains will feature the personal cipher of King Charles III, who is Patron of the Royal Opera House, The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet.
The curtains will be crafted in collaboration with stage and event equipment specialists Gerriets and the Royal School of Needlework. They will be unveiled in May 2026.
The current curtains, which will have been hanged in The Royal Opera House in London for 27 years by then, feature the personal cipher of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

"Over nearly three decades, these curtains have opened and closed on more than 10,000 performances, bearing witness to countless premieres, encores and curtain calls. Subjected to daily wear and tear, they have now reached the end of their lifespan - making this commission both a practical necessity and a symbolic renewal," the company said in the press release.
A very Royal Ballet and Opera-tic announcement, indeed.
