Natalia Osipova withdraws from ABT Don Q and Royal Ballet Japan tour

American Ballet Theatre (ABT) announced a cast change for the performance on 6th July 2026 as Natalia Osipova has withdrawn from her scheduled performance due to injury.

In March, ABT said Osipova, a Principal of The Royal Ballet, would guest-perform the role of Kitri in ABT's new Don Quixote in its summer 2026 season.

ABT Principal Dancer Catherine Hurlin will now step in to dance Kitri opposite Principal Dancer Daniel Camargo as Basil, ABT said in the announcement dated 25th June.

Separately, Osipova has also withdrawn from The Royal Ballet's Japan tour, organiser Japan Performing Arts Foundation said on 25th June.

The Russian dancer was scheduled to dance the title role of Giselle in Tokyo on 11th July. Her colleague and a Principal Mayara Magri will replace her.

The nature of Osipova's injury is not clear. However, The Royal Ballet's Artistic Director Kevin O'Hare said in the organiser's website;

"Unfortunately, Natalia Osipova has sustained an injury and under medical supervision has been strictly advised to rest completely for the coming weeks. Sadly as a result, she will be unable to travel to Japan."

Swift recoveries, Natalia!
